President Obama Has a Message for Mike Vick

Eagles QB Mike Vick

When Philadelphia Eagles corner Nnamdi Asomugha had the opportunity to speak for President Barack Obama earlier this week, the conversation turned to football.  Obama had a message that he wanted the corner to deliver to one of his teammates.

“Tell Vick to slide” are the words that Obama had for quarterback Mike Vick.

And Eagles fans everywhere rose up in applause.

The message was heard loud and clear by Vick, who took to Twitter after hearing the story:

Vick has only played one full 16-game season in the NFL, as his scrambles to make plays make him vulnerable to injury. So will Vick finally do it? No less than the leader of the free world will be watching.

Mike Vick Poses as Undercover Modell’s Salesman

Mike Vick as “Victor”

Mike Vick posed as Modell’s salesman “Victor” in an in-store undercover operation to promote his new V7 clothing line. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback-turned-sales associate helped shoppers make selections from his line. The one thing he couldn’t help with? “No, we don’t carry Giants blue.”

Mike Tomlin gets contract extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced they have extended coach Mike Tomlin’s contract through the 2016 season.

“I am excited that I will continue to be the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers for years to come,” Tomlin said in a statement. “I am grateful to the Steelers organization for the opportunity I have been given over the past five years to work and live in this great city, and I am excited to continue to work to bring another championship to the Steelers and the city of Pittsburgh.”

Tomlin, who is entering his sixth season as the Steelers’ coach, became the youngest coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl, when he led the Steelers to a 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals in February 2009. He also reached the playoffs four times in his first five seasons, including two trips to the Super Bowl.

“We are pleased to announce that Mike Tomlin will remain with the Steelers for at least five more years,” Steelers president Art Rooney II said. “Mike is one of the top head coaches in the National Football League and we are thrilled he will continue to lead our team as we pursue another Super Bowl title.”

Charges dismissed against Eagles’ Dion Lewis after brutal arrest video surfaces

http://bcove.me/8auvu4om

Well, there are truly two sides to every story. Last month we brought you a report ofEagles RB Dion Lewis being arrested on Felony charges for pulling a fire alarm.

Now, the story is a little different than what was originally reported. The Charges have been dismissed against Lewis, and his brother Lamar, in the July 8th incident in Albany, NY after a video of the incident was released and clearly showed that the two men didn’t pull a fire alarm, nor did they bang on the doors and try to force entry as they were accused of doing.

What is interesting though, is the way the authorities acted in the arrest. As you can see in the video above, Police entered with guns drawn when the pair of brothers were standing in the area between two doors. Before they entered the area, police already had guns and pepper spray wielded and didn’t ask for cooperation before heading straight for the two men, dropping them with pepper spray and dragging them out.

According to the NESN, Police spokesman Steve Smith said officers used the spray because they believed the brothers were trying to break into the hotel while in possession of a knife. Smith said that the incident is being reviewed, but there was nothing to indicate the officers acted inappropriately. District Attorney David Soares said he believed the officers reacted the way they did because of the description of the scene from the 911 call

Granted, they may have done things the right way if they believed there was someone with a knife, but because of the video, both Dion and his brother’s charges were dropped and the police that responded to the situation are under review for the incident.

Aaron Berry Cut from the Lions after Second Arrest

After his second arrest in a month, the Detroit Lions determined that they had enough of corner Aaron Berry’s legal troubles and released him from the team on Monday. The move by Detroit will likely send a message to some of the other playerson the squad who have also found themselves on the wrong side of the law this offseason.

Berry was arrested on three counts of simple assault, reportedly pointing a firearm at three people over the weekend. In June he was arrested for DUI in his hometown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Broncos Kicker lived in a Hotel for 5 Years

AP Photo

At the beginning of the week, it was announced that the Denver Broncos had reached an agreement with Kicker Matt Prater on a four-year deal that would pay him $13 Million, with a signing bonus of nearly $3 Million and removing the franchise tag he was given before free agency.

Prater has played for the Broncos for five years and he’s been undoubtedly clutch for them, converting more than 80% of his kicks during his tenure with four game winning kicks this last season during what was dubbed Tebowmania.

But now with his new contract, Prater will be able to call Denver home for the first time, despite already being there for five years.

He told He told C.J. and Kreckman of 102.3 ESPN in Denver that, during his prior time with the team, he’s lived in a Hotel. “I’m actually in the process of looking for a condo or townhouse, because I’ve actually lived in a hotel for the last five years,”Prater said “So I’m excited about moving out of the hotelI bought a house in Florida a couple years ago and just out here, it was real convenient for me. I was going two years in a row on a one-year deal so I didn’t want to buy a place and have to move.”

During his career he’s nailed a few from 50 yards or more, and says those are his favorite ones to kick “I like kicking those longer ones; I don’t know why, I just expect to make them every time…. I think just the situation of the game, and then getting to hit another 50-yarder in overtime to win it was pretty awesome.”

He’s been pretty clutch for the Broncos and because of his leg, they were able to slip into the Playoffs for the first time in six years.

He also talked about the addition of Peyton Manning to the team and how it would affect him. “I kind of just don’t expect anything, just be ready to kick. With Peyton coming to town, obviously I think we’re going to score more points, so there will be more extra points and more kickoffs for me. I’m not opposed to kicking extra points instead of field goals. It makes my job a lot easier.”

It’s a bit surprising to know that a player that’s been in the same city for so long would be living in a Hotel, but some say the NFL stands for Not For Long, and with some kickers that has been proven true. With his new deal, he’ll be able to sleep comfortably in his own bed, in his own house.

Terrell Owens Misses Court Date, Could Face Jail Time

Terrell Owens return to the NFL looks more unlikely everyday, and now the former NFL Pro Bowl receiver could face jail time if he does not pay child support.

According to Erica Byfield of WSBTV.com Owens owes $20,000 in child support payments and may face jail time.

Terrell did not show up to his child support hearing in Fulton County on Thursday and judge John Gorger was upset.

The mother of Owen’s 7-year-old daughter Melanie Smith says he has not paid child support in months.  Owens was suppose to pay Smith $5,000 per month.

“It’s a tragedy, not only that we are here today. This is the third case she has had to file in the last year,” Smith’s attorney Randy Kessler told WSB.

Owens’ attorney David Hartin took responsibility for his client’s absence blaming poor communication. The judge called in both Smith’s attorney Randy Kessler and Owens’ attorney David Hartin into his chambers and when they returned a July 19 court date was set, and if Owens did not show up he could face jail time
