Snoop Dogg is known primarily for his music and extra curricular activities, but he’s also known for being a die-hard NFL fan, particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Like many Black and Yellow faithful, Snoop is a little upset at the Steelers for not getting the job done in regards to paying Mike Wallace. I don’t blame the team here as word leaked that no team handed him a serious offer sheet in Free Agency because he was after Larry Fitzgerald money, something he isn’t deserving of quite yet.
Wallace is without a doubt the best Wide Receiver on the team, but he’s still not regarded as one of the best in the league. Some refer to him as a one-trick-pony that can only run the go route, but that’s nonsense. Wallace is one hell of a receiver that can do it all – he’s just not categorized as elite. With his recent no-show to Steelers camp, it appears that he is serious about getting a new deal, and fans are calling for it as he is.
Snoop Dogg joined the Total Access crew on NFL Network on Thursday and voiced his displeasure at the team for not getting a deal done with Wallace yet, “Hey, Rooney, man,” he said, “get y’all thing together. Pay the man. Look, I know he ain’t proven, you know, three, four years in the game, but we need him, man. I mean, you tell me somebody else that’s gonna do what he do. We need him, man. Get it together. Y’all go ‘head and have that conversation, you know, get the apples and oranges together so we can move on.”
Two things here. 1) Snoop, I love ya man, but the Rooney’s don’t do up the contracts. That job belongs to General Manager Kevin Colbert, and he says that he wants to keep Wallace a Steeler. 2) What do appples and oranges have to do with a contract negotiation?!
Earlier in the week it was reported that the Steelers and Wallace have put a halt to negotiations. I hope they get it done, so Wallace will be able to join his teammates in camp to learn the new Todd Haley offense that’s being put in place. The longer he sits out, the less and less he learns, and he’s not showing up until he gets a deal as he’s refused to sign the restricted tender that was placed on him.
He’s set to make $2.7 million this season under the tender, and if the team didn’t tender him, he’d make around 500k for the season. So they’ve taken small steps to make him happy – but apparently it’s not enough, and the history of the team suggests that they won’t pay him ‘Fitz money‘. We’ll see if talks resume, but for the sake of Snoop, Pay the man!
